5 Ways to Stay Motivated When Working from Home

If you’re having trouble getting or staying motivated in your solopreneur career then try some of these strategies to gain your perspective and inspiration.

What Are the Reasons You Wanted to Work from Home in the First Place

Whatever your reason was for wanting to work from home, take some time to get in touch with those feelings again. You might have wanted to be your own boss, wanted more freedom to work your own hours, didn’t want the commute. Write them down and post them somewhere around your workstation that you will see daily as a reminder that you are doing what you want. This is an amazing way to rejuvenate your passion for working from home.

Set Short Term Goals for Yourself

When you’re feeling in a funk, setting goals that you can quickly accomplish can skyrocket your motivation to do it again, and again. This could be as simple as writing one more blog post per week, working an extra 30 minutes a day to complete a project before the deadline, or earning an extra $50 per week. Set only one goal at a time and when you accomplish it you can set another. If you try to set too many goals at a time you run the risk of not meeting them which will defeat the purpose.

Walk Away for a Awhile

If you’re having trouble getting your creative juices flowing, take a break and just focus on yourself for a little bit. Maybe go out to the coffee shop or mall with a friend, talk a walk at the park, read a book or even just take a nap. Whatever you enjoy doing to get your mind off work for a little bit can help you get back in the groove that much faster.

Take Time for Your Real Life Friends

Working from home is very isolating at times so it’s a good idea to take time regularly to meet up with friends. In as much as working at home is isolating it is also flexible! Plan a regular lunch date with your best friend or maybe join an organization that meets once a week to make new friends.

Keep Track of Your Accomplishments

This is hard for a lot of us because we expect so much from ourselves that we forget when we’ve done a great job. Since we work for ourselves no one else is going to do it for us, so keep a notebook, journal or three ring binder detailing your accomplishments. If you’re feeling low you can break out your book to review what you have achieved giving you the boost you need to continue. And don’t forget to reward yourself regularly!

Working from home is a blessing but not always easy.

Hello Shan! Yes seeing your own accomplishments in black and white is quite the motivator for most of us.
