I love to take pictures but, as I’m sure you know, photos don’t always come out the way we want them too. Sometimes they’re too dark or too light or just need a little extra something.
I used to use Picnik which was a free photo editing program and I LOVED it. But, sad to say, it was discontinued in April. So that left me searching for something as easy to use. Here are a couple free programs that I’ve used since:
I recently discovered PicMonkey and it is fast becoming my go to quick fix photo program. This is the one that is most like Picnik that I’ve found so, since we all tend to be drawn to what we know, I’m liking it a lot.
I edited this photo with PicMonkey.
I got the picture from MorgueFile and just did a little editing. I used the Burst and then the Soften effect features, then I added text and a frame and voila! Its super easy.
Gimp is the other one I use. I talk about it a lot because its a great program and its also free to use. Its a more powerful program and some have compared it to Photoshop. Its not only a photo editing program but you will be able to create headers, footers, buttons or whatever type of graphics you need with this program. Its got a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it you can do lots of really cool stuff.
You do have to download the software for this program to be able to use it but its well worth it.
There’s lots of tutorials on Youtube for how to do different things in Gimp but if you want to skip the hunting down resources to find what you need to do get Gimp Graphics Mojo. This shows you how to make awesome graphics all in one self study course by Angela Wills. She provides you with 16 step-by-step videos and several bonuses to get your graphics going and at the time of this writing is only $27. You can’t beat that.
What programs do you use to edit your photos? What do you like or dislike about them?
