What is RSS?

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a notification service that alerts you to new information on a given website.

With so many websites on the internet, literally billions, there’s no shortage of great information. But with such a vast amount of content, keeping up with sites you find relevant can be tough. Of course, you can bookmark your favorites but you may not always make it back for new information. I know before I discovered RSS feeds I couldn’t keep up with mine (but I have so many favorites!).

The best way to to keep up with changes is to use RSS.

With RSS, you just need to find sites you want to keep up with and add them to your feed reader. Then you just check your feed reader to see what changes are happening.

Keeping up with your favorite site is a simple as the push of button. The RSS button that is.

So, now to figure out what types of sites you sites should you subscribe to. Here’s a few ideas:

Your Competitors

If you’re in business to make money, and who isn’t, it’s a must to keep up with what your competition is doing. By adding your direct competitors to your RSS feed, you will know the minute they make a move.

Whether they’re using a new marketing method, releasing a new product or launching a new website, you are able to keep up to date on what they are doing that may impact your business. This helps you determine if their change will hurt your sales and how you can counteract it. It also allows you to see if it’s something you might want to implement into your business.

Industry Leaders

These are the movers and shakers within your industry. The people everyone listens to when they speak; the game changers. By adding industry leaders’ sites to your RSS feeds, you will always know what’s happening.

You’ll be the first to know of new marketing opportunities, when new trends happen and important changes are made.

Internet Marketing

The world of internet marketing is constantly changing and with RSS feeds, you get pertinent, up-to-date information about these changes. That being said, every feed reader should have at least a couple of internet marketing RSS feeds.

RSS feeds help keep you on top of your game. When search engines change their algorithms, you’ll be the first to know. When software vulnerabilities are spotted, you can quickly take action to secure your site.
