Stretch Yourself and Shine a Light on Your Business

Ever feel like you don’t know enough to share your knowledge? Or wonder if anyone would even care or take you seriously if you did? You want to build your business but don’t really want to get a lot of attention? You’d rather be a wallflower than dance. Am I right?

You’re probably wondering how I know so much about you? But, no. That’s me…was me.

I spent a lot of time in the shadows, working behind the scenes of other peoples’ businesses. Watching in awe as they rock their communities wanting desperately to grow my own but feeling too insecure to step out and let my light shine.

Fast forward a few years (and lots of growing pains in between), I’m starting to embrace stretching out of my comfort zone.

This summer I’ve:

  • Attended an in person business retreat in Michigan
  • Started a Facebook Group
  • Hosted a 5 day LIVE challenge in August with almost 500 people signed up!

All of those things were WAY far out of my comfort zone but stretching myself in uncomfortable ways is key to growth.

I never would’ve been able to do any of that without the guidance and support of a great community of people.

And, guess what – it’s time for another good stretching!

This month I’m participating in the Stretch Yourself Challenge hosted by my friend, Kelly McCausey. It’s is the 10th year anniversary and my 5th year participating.

So, What’s the Stretch Yourself Challenge?

It’s all about content marketing where you pick one project to complete to upgrade your business.

There are 15 ready made Challenges to choose from such as:

  • Write a blog post and share it like crazy
  • Start a Facebook group
  • Participate in a bundle or giveaway
  • Start a YouTube channel

Or you can create your own challenge based on something you want to accomplish.

With all these different challenges to choose from there’s something for everyone, from newbies to veterans, to help grow your reach and build your business.

This year I’ve chosen to Host a Facebook Live Series where I’ll demonstrate designing graphics for my online shop at happyfunsassy.com. This will be fun but definitely a stretch for me since I’ve just recently started exploring “live” sessions. Plus I’ll be filling up my shop with brand new mug and accessory designs. Win/win.

Why I Love the SYC

The participants are always high energy, encouraging and so supportive of each other. It’s a place to share progress, wins and struggles. We’re all in this together.

Plus we have active team leaders, Val Selby and Tishia Lee, who jump in to help and stir up a little fun competition to see which team will get the most participation points.Β  I’m on #teamshine.

There are so many gold nugget take aways from participating in the live group calls and getting involved with the community, not to mention growing my business in amazing ways.

Having the Challenge Guide at my fingertips makes it easy to continue growing my reach and stretching even after the Challenge ends.

Are you ready to stretch into your potential too? Join the Stretch Yourself Challenge!

Reading your post made me realize how much we take for granted the very tiny stretches we take towards our goals. thank you for reminding me that no action is so small that it cannot get us further ! And it is so much doing it with a team instead of doing it alone!

I understand how you feel, Samantha! I’m a little opposite. There are so many other areas in my life where I have had to be out in front. And, when it comes to my business I like to stay behind the scenes. But, I am learning if I don’t move out in front, I will never grow.

Wow, you’ve certainly undertaken many things this summer for which I congratulate you and now you’re also doing #SYC which I too joined.
Can’t say I’ve done as much as you but you reminded me that I need to look at the tinier stretches I made this summer. Wishing you great success
as you move forward. Not sure which team you are on but both teams are doing great.

Samantha, I’ve loved watching you stretch outside your comfort zone for several years now. Spending time in Michigan with you was inspiring to watch you embrace your dare and manifest its completion! There’s no stopping you now–that comfort zone is permanently stretched and you’re continuously stretching it more. Woo Hoo–Congratulations and can’t wait to see where your continued stretching takes you!

Congrats, Samantha. You are really rocking it! The fun thing about stretching your comfort zone is that the more you stretch, the wider your comfort zone gets. So keep up the good work! (And by the way, your site is lovely.)

Knowing how your work literally sparkles it’s hard to imagine you’ve ever been hiding. πŸ˜‰ But I know what that can be like. And it’s so exciting to see the stretches and growth from that first PhotoShop Friendly course I took with you, where you expertly showed how to get that cranky beast of a tool to work for anyone. So much stretching and growing is awesome to see!

You were talking about me… err, the old me anyway, in the beginning of your post. That hit the nail on the head and described me to a T. I too used to hide in the shadows helping all the cool, fun, savvy, smart, and creative women rock their businesses. I always would say “I don’t want to be in the spotlight, I like being behind the scenes.” Ha, I laugh now because uhm HELLO look at me now, I may like the spotlight a little too much πŸ˜‰ But enough about me! Sam, I have LOVED watching you step out from behind the shadows and step into the light. You are rockin’ and rollin’ and watching you shine and do all these things that have stretched (and continue to stretch) you, makes me smile πŸ™‚

I especially loved when you pointed out the many different challenges you have completed just this past summer;. It is very important for us to look at those past completed challenges to remind us that though they are out of our comfort zone at the beginning we come out at then end with so much more confidence and knowledge once they have been completed. Kudos on your completion and I know you will nail your next challenge.
